The widening of the Northwest Freeway (290) in Houston has been a years-long project and nightmare for thousands of commuters. Many have even changed the way they go to and from work because of the hassle. But the end is finally in sight. Officials say the main lanes will be finished by the end of 2018. Fortunately, the project spokesman is a former KHOU reporter and knew the deadline we faced to put together a 4:00 story (the earliest afternoon newscast). I found a place along the highway for the live shot and showed the area that will eventually become brand new lanes.
