Convicted murders record rap videos behind bars
We got this story thanks to fellow NBC affiliate WSMV in Nashville. They discovered two convicted murderers were still reaching the outside world through on-line posts and videos.. Using smuggled cell phones. The pair murdered a University of Memphis student in 2009. I covered the story originally, so our special projects producer approached me about doing a piece for our station. I conducted an interview for WSMV and they shared materials with us. There's definitely an outrage factor here. But, unfortunately, it appears to be an issue the TN Department of Corrections has a difficult time controlling.

"I'm Not Gay No More" COGIC Controversy
Delivered COGIC man speaks out; MGLCC weighs in
This is one of the stories we've done this week on the ongoing controversy involving Memphis-based COGIC (The Church Of God In Christ). A gay man claims he was "converted" during the denomination's annual convocation in St. Louis. A Memphis bishop presides over the service. Critics have condemned the church, the man, and the idea that you can change anyone's sexual orientation. Meanwhile, the video is viral and there are now musical and animated versions of it.

Teens Vandalize Car In Library Parking Lot
Teens vandalize car in library parking lot
Several highly publicized stories concerning out-of-control teens have a lot of people on edge. College student Ross Nagler is included. He had his own encounter upon exiting the main library on Poplar. Two teens were messing with his car. One climbed on top and started stomping. Nagler emailed us about what happened and I contacted him to do a story. I hate casting a bad light on all Memphis youth.. But these kinds of stories keep cropping up. Clearly, the vast majority of young people manage to stay out of trouble.

Car Shot Repeatedly With Baby On Board
Only On 5: Car Shot Repeatedly With Baby Inside
I found this story by searching the jail's website. I noticed a man charged with multiple counts of attempted murder and then pulled up his affidavit. It detailed this scary incident. A car was shot at least 8 times with a one year-old baby on board. The victims know the suspect.. But claim they don't know what his beef was. I was able to track down their information and they agreed to do an exclusive interview. I even got to meet the baby. I'm so glad she's okay..
